Curtain wall foundations are a more traditional form in suburban construction and can be made by slip-forming of concrete, the use of reinforced concrete blocks, or the use of interlocking insulated concrete form units (though care should be taken concerning adhesives commonly used with these. Utilihab does not employ basement construction with curtain walls and, in a fashion similar to much Japanese housing construction, employs curtain walls in a grid matching the layout of Primary framing, which is then mounted directly onto the curtain foundation in the same manner employed with pier foundations. Rubber wear strips along the bottom slots of the base floor deck can provide a draft seal along the curtain wall foundation edge.

This is a less preferred form of foundation for Utilihab use but does allow for its use with some alternative materials, such as stacked stone, soil-cement, clay block, and compressed earth block.
